Digital MOT

Put your public-facing digital infrastructure through a practical health check and see what is working, what needs attention and what to fix first.

One domain. One report. Clear priorities.

A business can have a website that looks fine while important technical problems sit underneath it: weak email authentication, an expiring certificate, missing security headers, DNS problems, poor indexability or basic SEO errors. Digital MOT brings those checks together in one place.

The scanner uses public, read-only checks. It does not log in to your website, hosting, DNS or email platform and it does not change anything. The aim is to give business owners and technical teams a fast first view of the areas worth investigating.

What Digital MOT checks

Website, SSL & DNS

Reachability, HTTP response, certificate health, public DNS records and whether the domain resolves as expected.

Email & security

SPF and DMARC presence plus important browser security headers such as HSTS, CSP and content-type protection.

SEO & indexability

Core page signals including title, description, H1, canonical configuration, robots directives and obvious indexing blockers.

Why these checks matter

  • Find technical faults before they become lost enquiries
  • Spot email authentication gaps that can affect trust and deliverability
  • Identify missing security controls visible from the public web
  • Catch basic SEO and indexability mistakes
  • Create a practical list for your developer or IT provider
  • Establish a baseline before a website migration or rebuild
  • Check a new supplier setup after launch
  • Give non-technical decision makers a clearer summary

How to read the result

1

Pass

The tested signal appears to be configured correctly at the time of the scan.

2

Advisory

The service may still work, but there is an improvement or configuration point worth reviewing.

3

Fail

The check found a problem or missing control that should be investigated and prioritised.

Digital MOT is a diagnostic tool, not a penetration test, compliance certification or guarantee that a system is secure. It is designed to surface useful external signals quickly and make the next technical conversation easier.

Do something with the result

Found a problem? Deal with it while it is visible.

A failed check does not always mean an emergency, but faults affecting email, security, indexing or site availability rarely improve by being left alone. Send us the result and we can confirm what matters, what can wait and what is worth fixing first.

Help & FAQs

Common Digital MOT questions

View all help & FAQs
Does Digital MOT change anything on my website?

No. The scanner performs public, read-only checks and does not require an account or administrator access.

Is a high score the same as a security audit?

No. A Digital MOT is a broad external health check. Penetration testing, vulnerability assessment and compliance work are separate, deeper exercises.

Can every email setting be checked automatically?

No. Some settings, particularly DKIM, can depend on provider-specific selector names. The scanner avoids presenting a guess as a definitive result.

Can Datarush investigate the failures?

Yes. We can review the finding, confirm the cause and either implement the fix or give your existing provider a clear technical action.
